Toque: An Evening with Chicago's Culinary Masters

Chicago’s Culinary Greats Dish Up a Five Star Evening to Send Kids to Camp

More than 300 partygoers experienced Chicago’s best restaurants and culinary talents at Toque: An Evening with Chicago's Culinary Masters, an annual benefit for Children’s Oncology Services, Inc. (COSI) on September 10 at the Harold Washington Library Winter Garden. The event named after a toque, a traditional tall, pleated white hat worn by chefs, wined and dined a crowd of Chicago’s most philanthropic partygoers. This year’s event was emceed by Bill Kurtis, journalist and founder of Tallgrass Beef Company with Michael Kornick of MK Restaurant as chef coordinator of the event. Some of the participating chefs included Graham Elliot Bowles of Graham Elliot, Art Smith of Table 52, Paul Kahan of Publican, Jason Hammell of Lula Café, Shawn McClain of Spring, Chris Pandel of The Bristol, and Mindy Segal of Hot Chocolate.

Guests also enjoyed four fine dining courses with wine pairings from Wirtz Beverage along with more than 120 live and silent auction items, all to send children with cancer to the One Step at A Time programs. Partygoers also took part in a camp fire song led by 12-year-old Brian “The Moose” King from Villa Park (Illinois). The event raised more than $250,000 for the nonprofit’s One Step At a Time programs.

About Children’s Oncology Services, Inc. (COSI)
Children's Oncology Services, Inc. (COSI) is a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to improving the quality of life of children and adolescents diagnosed with cancer. Through the One Step At A Time programs, COSI offers camp experiences and educational programs throughout the year that allow children with cancer to just be kids.

Founded on the principle of volunteerism, all programs are run by counselors, medical staff and administrators who generously donate their time and services. Tuition for all One Step At A Time programs is based on a family’s own assessment of their ability to pay and no one is ever turned away. Tuition is set at a fraction of the actual cost of camp and is often partially or completely waived. For more information, please visit www.onestepcamp.org.
